REI curates its winter gear to meet the needs of its members. Even the gear it makes sees frequent updates to keep up with the competition.

The temps are plunging, mountains are already coated with snow, and now is the perfect time to shop for winter staples like gloves, base layers, and, of course, snow pants and jackets.

Check out this selection of top gear sold at REI this winter.

This rechargeable headlamp produces 400 lumens of light when you need it, and down to 6 lumens when you just need to find something in your tent.

Toggling between the three output settings comes via the brand’s PowerTap tech. There are also dim, strobe, and red light options.

A battery life display gives a heads-up ahead of recharge while the lockout feature can preserve the battery while stored.

Darn Tough makes these hiking staples with middle-weight cushioning and shrink-treated merino wool to hold true to size. Protect your feet from wear and enjoy the breathability of wool inside your favorite footwear.

Short and sweet, these nylon and spandex shorts are made to shed moisture and withstand several washes. They have drop-in pockets for stashing accessories and a zippered pocket to secure essentials like keys and a credit card. The liner is mesh for added airflow.

There’s a reason you see these in gift guides so often. This baselayer is made with an interlock knit and uses wool’s ability to breathe and resist odors. The fit has been updated with new side seams and a curved back seam to reduce sagging. Flatlock seams and a wool-covered waistband help prevent discomfort.

REI developed this Peak two-layer nylon shell for keeping out all of the elements, and it has a DWR finish, too.

For warmth, there’s a 40g weight of synthetic insulation. Articulated knees and hips aid the range of motion, as does the back stretch knit panel.

REI put its own Peak two-layer nylon to work as the waterproof and breathable laminate in this snow jacket. Body-mapped insulation puts 80 g of synthetic around the core and 60 g of synthetic in the sleeves.

Other downhill-friendly touches include a helmet-compatible hood, a snap-away powder skirt, internal media ports, and plenty of pockets — including dedicated goggle and ski pass stashers.

The North Face used recycled polyester to make these four-way stretch hand warmers. Made with a women’s-specific fit, these gloves are articulated and made with a soft-shell fabric on the palms that allows for using touchscreen devices with any finger. The palms also use silicone grippers.

Consider this a seasonal fleece, one that you can enjoy out in the wild and closer to home.

REI updated this version for a closer fit so you can still layer over it. The shoulder seams are placed forward to prevent rubbing from pack straps. And there are secure hand pockets, as well as elastic cuffs for keeping out drafts.

This hip-length jacket provides water- and windproof coverage when the rain comes. The weather protection comes from a breathable, 2.5-layer membrane, and there are pit zips to quickly dump body heat while still staying dry.

This long-sleeve T-shirt provides warmth on cold-start runs and hikes and sun protection come midday. Made from two-way stretch polyester, it should move with you on the go as well as wick sweat and dry fast.
